"Dark Star" launching at Captain Wick's Boat Yard.  We did this to confirm waterline prior to painting boot stripe.  I was very happy she settled in right on her designed waterline.  After this the hull was painted in the Imron color "midnight blue", graphics of hailing port and name were then installed on hull.

The hull was laminated on a upside down mould built on strongbacks using the C-Flex fiberglass method.

Interior bulkhead and framing details.  Notice the hanging knees connecting the cabin side with the cabin top.  The bulkheads were  painted off white while the mahagony deck beams and other structural members were varnished bright.

About Us

Dawson Yacht Carpentry sprang from the founder's love of boats and a growing demand for his expertise.  During 1987-1989, Brad Dawson built a cruising boat for his personal use.   Using the Bingham 28 design, Brad singlehandedly lofted the plans, built the mold, laid up the hull and deck, crafted the interior cabinets, installed all the mechanical systems and rigging.  As the project started coming together, boat enthusiasts took notice and soon requested he work on their yachts.

As work on his cruising boat was nearing completion, Brad began accepting projects and subsequently his reputation as a skilled craftsman grew rapidly.  To meet the growing demand for his services, Brad founded Dawson Yacht Carpentry in a small portable building in a local boat yard during 1989.

From those humble beginings, Dawson Yacht Carpentry has grown to become the premier boat woodworking shop on the Texas Gulf Coast.  We continue to meet the ever increasing demands for our services with the same high quality our customers have come to expect.  We remain committed to customer satisfaction and take great pride in our work.
